Nine Liters of Ornellaia for 33.600 Dollars.
Not really a bargain, but a very unique bottle of wine.
New York Celebrates Ornellaia's 20th anniversary at Christies:
The 2005 Salmanazar at Auction.
Christie's New York, October 30 2007: The Salmanazar of 2005 Ornellaia, nine liters of Tuscan nectar from Ornellaia's vineyards in Bolgheri, was auctioned today at Christie's for the fantastic sum of 33,600 $. The auction was especially interesting thanks to the exceptional nature of the lot on the block: An en primeur of the 2005 vintage, and an absolutely unique bottle specially produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of a legendary Tuscan wine.
It took a young couple from Seattle just 40 seconds to secure this eagerly sought lot, which was, they said, the reason for their visit to Christie's.
To underline its strong ties to Tuscany, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia has decided to dedicate the entire sum to the restoration of the precious bronze statues above one of the doors of Florence's Baptistery.
